Everywhere Updates - 127 days out
The exciting news for Everywhere this week is around some launch events being planned for Lisbon on 9/9, 10/10 and 11/11. Lots still needs to happen for these to take place, but let’s stay hopeful and positive that we can create something special those nights for whoever is in town. If it can also raise some money for the Sharing Fund, that would be even better.
Very fun to think about what these immersive nights could look like, with biophilic art and performance, collective dance, inspiring talks, and of course some rave.
The first one on 9/9 would be right after Burning Man, so a quick turnaround. After the Burn, most of the large regional burns will be over for the year. Just Midburn to go, and they just announced dates, November 24-29, that overlap exactly with Everywhere. There are no coincidences. Everywhere is borderless, and of course many of our invented conflicts have to do with the pretend and invisible lines we draw. I’m in touch with some of the camps and organizers at Midburn, as well as an inspiring person I meet at Nowhere who is holding an ayahuasca retreat for Israelis and Palestinians in October at an ecovillage in Portugal. How can we heal by partying together? There are some fun documentaries about English football hooligans taking MDMA together and pretty much immediately becoming a love fest. I’m all for that.
In case you’re interested, after Burning Man (70k people), the largest burns are Midburn (14k at its peak), Afrikaburn (12k), Borderland (4k) and Nowhere (3k).
Of course none compare, by size, to the the mother of the burn, Carnaval (I guess like 300 million celebrating annually around the world?). Or the the grandmother, Kumbh Mela (600 million). These are all estimates/guesses.
Having gone Nowhere recently, Everywhere will check out Boom and Borderland next. Both are exciting. Boom has been around for ages, also has a land project, and people speak about it as if it’s a portal as transformative as the Burn. Borderland is more low-key, but seems to be the most advanced Burn in terms of ownership/stewardship, with land owned in a trust, the flattest org, an engaging and transparent Fund that we may be able to leverage for the Sharing Fund.
What lessons will be learned, which connections will be made … what are the next pieces to the puzzle that will come into place?
