The dates are set. The Frequencies are in good shape. The instagram is growing. Everywhere.now is live. The first posters, stickers and logos have been created, some were printed and you may just spot one if you’re walking around Rio, Mexico City or Lisbon.
This Substack is active for insider updates. Last weekend at Tierra Iris, a second major tree planting occurred, to follow the one in February at the Traditional Dream Factory.
~4 months since inception, our experiment is taking shape, and awareness around it is growing.
Several other important parts are in progress but in earlier stages:
Additional art and logo creation, including large scale/public art
Everywhere’s digital expression
An Art & Nature Fund (though this is informally live and open for contributions if anyone feels so led)
Bracelet design
Labyrinth design (poster initially, IRL eventually)
Pre launch events
Tonight I had a big brainstorming session with Claudia for some market-style events in Lisbon, starting with a 2-day event in May. These can be quite experimental - testing out a new venue for her artisan market, Origem, and adding additional market concepts like gifting, flowers/plants, and more upcycling/vintage elements. Since the space is big, we can organize workshops, performances and talks in the spirit of Everywhere. If it all goes well we may have the opportunity to repeat it in July and September, and to run it for the duration of Everywhere in November.
What other events and activations can happen ahead of November?
Let this be an invitation to think about how you can get more involved, be it through events, art, introductions or promotion. How would you like to be the change you want to see in the world?
I’d like to formalize this invitation a bit through a Typeform and send it to the instagram following as well, to see how people feel led to contribute and participate.
Listing out all the things in motion brought to mind a major need that isn’t really off the ground that should help with building awareness and traction: a shared Events Calendar.
We posted two trial events on Time & Space for April: Bicycle Day and Earth Day. Perhaps doing so added a little awareness to these two global and aligned events, but as a new app, the adoption isn’t there yet, and it doesn’t have the weekly/monthly calendar view that we’ll ultimately need for Everywhere (filterable by location).
Instagram is also not great for events. People use Ticketmaster/Shotgun/Eventbrite for ticketed events, but there’s no great What/Where/When resource for the types of events we’ll create for Everywhere. Having been asked yesterday for a recommendation of good retreats throughout the year, I realized there’s also a gap for promoting those kinds of transformational events globally. Perhaps an Open Source calendar of some sort could solve both problems, and that’s something that’s been discussed as part of the digital expression of Everywhere; maybe it’s the place to start.
